Unlocking Joy in Disney Dreamlight Valley is an exciting part of the new content that brings the world of Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out to your game. Joy is unlocked through a series of quests that begin in the Dream Castle and continue in the Inside Out Realm. The main quest you’ll be completing to bring her to the Valley is called “Dream On!”

Before “Dream On!”: The “Emotional Rescue” Quest

To get started on the path to unlocking Joy, you must first complete the quest “Emotional Rescue.” This quest is the gateway to the Inside Out Realm and sets the stage for everything that follows. Here are the steps:

• Head to the top floor of the Dream Castle. You’ll find a new door with a vibrant, colorful design inspired by Riley’s mind.
• Unlock this door by spending 15,000 Dreamlight.
• Instead of entering immediately, a broken memory orb will fall out. You’ll need to repair it with both joy and sadness.
• To add joy, you must cook any dish that makes you happy. Any meal will work!
• To add sadness, take a picture of the Night Thorns that are growing around your Valley.
• Once you’ve done this, you can enter the Inside Out Realm and will be greeted by Joy.

The “Dream On!” Quest: Bringing Joy to the Valley

Once you’ve completed “Emotional Rescue” and have spoken with Sadness in the realm, you’ll be able to begin the “Dream On!” quest. This quest involves helping Joy with a special Dream Production to inspire Riley. Here’s a breakdown of the steps:

• Follow Joy through a portal to the Dream Production space.
• You’ll need to set up the stage. Joy will ask you to place three “classy, gold-trimmed” furniture items on the stage. You can choose from a variety of items on a nearby platform, such as a globe, a potted plant, and a fireplace.
• Next, Joy will ask you to dress like a classical pianist. You can filter your wardrobe to find three items with the “Elegant” tag.
• Once you are dressed, interact with the piano on the stage to start the dream.
• After the dream, you’ll be transported back to Headquarters and learn that the dream was a failure. Joy decides a more exciting “pop concert” dream is needed, and that a Remote Headquarters in your Valley will be necessary to get more materials.
• Return to Dreamlight Valley and place the Emotions’ Headquarters, which serves as Joy’s house. You will need to pay Scrooge McDuck 10,000 Star Coins to build it.
• Building the Headquarters officially unlocks Joy as a Villager, and you’ll be prompted to take a photo with her.
• As a final step in this quest, Joy will ask you to gather some colorful materials to craft a Go Go Glow Light Stick for the new dream. You’ll need:
  • 1x Topaz
  • 1x Apple
  • 1x Seaweed
  • 1x Blue Falling Penstemon
  • 1x Carrot
  • 1x Onyx
• Give these materials to Joy, and she will craft the light stick and ask you to deliver it to Sadness at Headquarters to begin the next quest, “Get Up and Glow!”

Once you’ve completed these steps and built her home, Joy will officially be a part of your Valley, ready to participate in friendship quests and add her signature cheerful personality to your game.
